Printing in the CMTS Admin program isn't the same as printing from a traditional Windows program. Since the CMTS is entirely web-based, all reports are generated as a PDF document that you can then send to the printer (or save to your computer, etc).
The most common reason for reports not being generated is because of a pop-up blocker. (We find this to be the problem more than 95% of the time!). One of the system requirements for the CMTS (details in our online help file under the heading "System Requirements") is that all popup blockers must be disabled. If you try to run a report and literally nothing happens, you have a pop-up blocker enabled.
There are many variations and brands of popup blockers, but the most common is the one that is part of Internet Explorer. To disable it, follow these steps:
1) Start Internet Explorer
2) Click Tools (from the main IE menu)
3) Select Internet Options
4) On the options window that appears, click the Privacy tab (at the top)
5) UNCHECK the "Turn on Pop-up Blocker" checkbox (in the lower half of the Privacy tab)
6) Click OK to close the Internet Options screen
7) Close Internet Explorer
You may then go back into the CMTS Admin and you SHOULD be able to generate reports now. If not, you'll need to contact your district support staff to see if there is another popup blocker installed (Google Toolbar, Yahoo Toolbar, etc all have them built in as well).
One great way to tell if a popup blocker is preventing the reports from being shown is this:
- Go to a report that you want to run
- Hold down the CTRL key and (while keeping the CTRL key depressed), click the Printer icon on report screen.
- If the report works, this is verificaton that you do, indeed, have a popup blocker running somewhere on your system.
The CTRL key is a universally accepted "bypass" for most popup blockers.
Another reason you may have trouble printing reports is if you try to do so with any Internet Explorer browser windows open (other than the CMTS Admin window that you are working in). You can tell this is the issue if you get the "Log In" screen anytime you try to run reports.
If there is no popup blocking software installed and you have verified that you don't have any other Internet Explorer browser instances running and yet you still can't generate reports, the only other requirement is that you have Adobe Acrobat OR Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on your computer. Acrobat Reader is a free program and can be downloaded directly from Adobe using this link: http://get.adobe.com/reader/
